Younger Mitsubishi’s Check Engine Light Guide:

Check Your Gas Cap

  • This is the easiest fix for your check engine light! Some older model vehicles do not have a separate indicator light for a loose gas cap so make sure that yours is fully tightened! Keep in mind that your light may not shut off right away and may take several trips before the light resets itself.

Pull Up Your Built In Diagnostic Program

  • Often found on newer models and built into their screen displays or available through an app on your smart device, these programs can give you more information on the diagnosis of your ride! Most also have an option to schedule a service appointment if the problem is serious!

Look Out For Other Indicators On Your Dash

  • Pay attention to your dashboard gauges and lights for further information of what might have caused your check engine light to come on. If you notice other signs or trouble, it’s important that you pull over and shut your vehicle off as possible. On some vehicles, a yellow check engine light indicates you want to investigate. Red lights mean stop right now and seek help.

Slow Down And Take A Load Off

  • In some instances engine issues can be caused by overloading your vehicle’s towing capacity. If your check engine light is blinking or you notice a decline in power or speed, try to reduce the demands you are putting on your engine. It’s better to call a tow to help you carry the heavy load than cause any extensive/expensive damage to your ride.
