Are you a new driver? Maybe you’re a teenager and this is your first time behind the wheel. Perhaps you’ve been driving a while and need a refresher on safe driving tips. Whichever category you fall in, we’re glad you’re here! This week we have some very helpful tips for all drivers, everywhere who want to practice safe driving habits! Let’s get started!

  • Keep your cell phone off or in a safe place like the glove box or backpack in the back seat. Even if you are using hands-free, this serves as a distraction to drivers. Plus, it is against the law to talk while driving.
  • Don’t text either! Texting and driving will take your attention off the road and can leave devastating effects in the event of a collision. Your undivided attention needs to be on the road at all times, even at a stop light or sign. Put it down, it can wait.
  • Obeying the speed limit will ensure your safety and will keep you from paying high insurance rates and fines for tickets. Even if everyone else is flying past you, don’t feel pressured to speed up, continue to do the speed limit and stay alert to other drivers.
  • Minimize your distractions inside the vehicle. Whether it is passengers, the radio, eating, drinking, etc. – these all serve as a distraction to the driver. Keep them to a minimum and try to cut them out altogether.
  • Driving solo as a teenager can help reduce the risk of collisions. Adding additional teens inside a vehicle where one teen is driving will increase the chances of a car accident.

These are our top five tips to practice each and every time you turn on your vehicle. It doesn’t matter if you are heading out for a quick trip to the market or hours of miles – remember these tips and share with your friends to ensure you’re all being safe on the road!
