Have you ever been driving along and suddenly gotten a flat tire, either by running over something sharp or by having your tire blow out? I think a lot of us have been there, and if you’ve got a spare in your vehicle it’s super easy to get back on the road again and straight to your dealer to get the tire replaced. For those who might not know how to change a tire, we’ve put together this guide to changing your tire out for a new one in record time.

First of all, you should always have a spare in your vehicle that’s in good shape and inflated properly just in case of emergency. Next, you should also have a jack and tire iron at the very least, and other emergency equipment to make sure that other drivers see you when you’re pulled off to the side of the road.

When it comes to changing the tire, the first thing you need to do is get over to the side of the road as safely as possible. Next, get out your jack and tire iron and follow the instructions in your owner’s manual regarding changing your tire. Make sure that you put the jack in the specific spot indicated – if you place it incorrectly, you can warp the frame of your vehicle which is never good.

When you have put the spare on per the instructions in your owner’s manual, put everything away and put the flat tire in the place where the spare was. You should immediately go to your dealer to get the tire replaced, as spares are not meant to be used as real tires and are not safe to drive on for long distances at high speeds.
